MOULTRIE —
Gary Boley, director of marketing, public relations and the Foundation at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, will retire Dec. 31.
Boley, who first came to Moultrie as publisher of The Moultrie Observer in 1982 and left to become president and publisher of The Albany Herald in 1997, returned to Moultrie six years ago as head of the hospital’s marketing department and director of the Colquitt Regional Medical Foundation.
“Gary has done an excellent job heading the marketing department at Colquitt Regional,” said Jim Matney, president and CEO. “It will be difficult to replace him because many of his contributions go beyond the role of the hospital. He has been instrumental in building our Foundation, along with others, as well as making sure that Colquitt Regional Medical Center is involved in the community.”
Matney said Boley will continue to work with Colquitt Regional on certain projects.
“Gary has agreed to stay on and assist Colquitt Regional on some specific projects from his home,” Matney said. “In the interim, Nicole Gilbert will head the department while we evaluate the direction for the department. We wish Gary well on his well-deserved retirement.”
Gilbert was the assistant marketing director before Matney promoted her about a month ago to director of product line management to develop and implement strategies to improve Colquitt Regional’s market share in its product lines.
During his time in Moultrie, Boley was active in a number of civic organizations, and served terms as president of the Downtown Merchants’ Association, the Chamber of Commerce, the Colquitt County Arts Council and the Moultrie Rotary Club. He was also chairman of the United Way of Colquitt County for several years and served on the boards of the Ellen Payne Odom Genealogy Library and the YMCA.
After retirement, Boley will relocate to his former hometown of Greenville, S.C., where he says he and his wife, Jan, will be more centrally located to their children and grandchildren.
“We have some young grandchildren up that way who really need to be spoiled, and we plan to go do what grandparents do best,” Boley said. “But we also have family and 30 years worth of friendships here, so we will be back.”
