One man nabbed, one escapes in marijuana bust

MOULTRIE — One man was apprehended and a second suspect fled during an alleged marijuana sale Saturday afternoon.

Jerron Ladean Blakely, 31, of 704 Seventh Ave. S.W., was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Moultrie police officers were sent to an abandoned house on First Avenue Northwest at 5:48 p.m. Saturday after an anonymous person reported seeing two men allegedly selling marijuana and carrying guns. Officers went and spoke with both men after they spotted a white Chevrolet Tahoe matching the description given to them, police reports stated.

The two men, identified as Blakely and the second suspect, allegedly told the officers they were there hanging out. Officers searched both men but did not find any weapons, and one of the officers got his K-9 unit to do a search of the Tahoe while a warrant check was done on both men. Neither of the men had active warrants at the time of the incident.

The K-9 indicated there was suspected drugs in the passenger side of the Tahoe during its search. The officer opened the door and allegedly found a loaded pistol, and the officers went to place both men under arrest, the report said.

Blakely was placed in handcuffs without struggle, but the second suspect allegedly snatched away when an officer got the handcuff caught in his shirt. He fled from the officers, and they were unable to locate him following a foot chase.

The officers conducted a second search of the Tahoe, and they found suspected marijuana and several small bags inside. When Blakely was told he was under arrest, he allegedly denied knowing about the suspected marijuana or the loaded pistol. He was taken to Colquitt County Jail, and officers found an identification card of the second suspect.
