MOULTRIE — The Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, located at 421 Sixth Ave. N.W., is celebrating its Annual In-House Revival Wednesday, April 22, through Friday, April 24, at 7 p.m. nightly. The event will continue on Sunday, April 26, with its Annual Homecoming celebration at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The theme for this occasion is “We Have Come this Far by Faith.” Focusing on scripture found in Hebrews 11:1-3.

Special music will be rendered by various choirs. On Wednesday night Bethlehem Schley, Thursday night Friendship choir, and Friday Union Missionary Baptist Church choir will render the music.

The 104-year old church was organized in 1905 in Tignan, Ga., and moved to its present location m 1923. Over time, several pastors served the congregation, including the Rev. Leroy Thompson Jr. who served for more than 30 years. He retired in 2005. The Rev. Alfred Jones is the current pastor.

The revivalist for the three nights of revival is the Rev. R.0. Calhoun, pastor of Union Missionary Baptist Church, Moultrie, Ga. Calhoun is a third generation preacher, licensed in 1977 by his father, the late Rev. Willard Calhoun, and ordained in 1980. Born in Birmingham, Ala., he received his Bachelor of Theology, Graduate of Biblical Studies, and the Associate in Sacred Literature, from Bethany Theological Seminary in Dothan, Ala. Calhoun is married to the former Robin Elzia, and they are the parents of three sons.

The jubilant events will continue on Sunday, April 26, at 8 a.m. as the Annual Celebration of Homecoming begins with Friendship’s Associate Minister Zilphia Dorsett delivering the eariy service message.

Dorsett was born in Camilla, Ga., and moved to Miami-Dade County, Fla., at a young age. She served as police chaplain and was also employed as personal director with the City of Florida City, Fla. She earned a Bachelor of Christian Education Degree from Jacksonville Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Fla. She was a member of Greater William Chapel Freewill Baptist in Homestead, Fla., where she served as Sunday school superintendent and president of the Women’s Ministry. Following her retirement, she and her husband, Tommie relocated to Moultrie and joined Friendship under the leadership of the Rev. Alfred Jones. She is the organizer of the Wednesday Noonday Prayer Service. Dorsett and her husband have two sons, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

The Rev. Alfred Jones, pastor of Friendship, will deliver the 11 a.m. message. Jones is a native of Lowndes County. He earned a degree in radiology from Valdosta Technical College, a Bachelor of Science in Vocational Education from Valdosta State University, and a Master’s Degree in Theology from Bethany Divinity College and Seminary. Jones is employed at Moultrie Technical College as the instructor of radiology and technology. He is married to Deloane Hill Jones. They are the parents of three children and two grandchildren.

Pastor Jones, Sister Alfreda Porter, program chair, and the entire Friendship family invite the public to this week’s celebrations.

CORRECTION: DUI charge
In a Jan. 28 report, The Observer said Ronald Craig Bass, 50, 4411 Dunn Road, Hartsfield, was charged Jan. 26 with driving under the influence, open container violation and probation violation in connection with a minor wreck on Camilla Highway. Excluding the probation violation charge, that information came from a Moultrie police report of a November 2001 incident.
Bass was charged with probation violation Thursday because all the penalties from the 2001 incident had not been paid. He paid the remaining penalties following his arrest, according to a Moultrie police report.
The Observer regrets the error.
