MOULTRIE — A teen-ager has allegedly confessed to killing a Sale City man Friday.
James Jamal Williams, 19, of 512 Edmondson Road, was charged with murder. He has been charged in the death of Joshua Morey, 27, of 1686 Mallard Road in Sale City
Colquitt County Sheriff’s Investigator Lt. Shannon Hart said Williams was interviewed at the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office about 4:30 p.m. Monday. During the interview, he allegedly confessed to the killing and took investigators to a body at his house. The motive was believed to have been robbery.
The body was found wrapped in carpet in some bushes behind the house. The body has not been positively identified as Morey, Hart said, but it was believed to be him. It was sent to the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta for an autopsy, which is scheduled to be done today.
Morey reportedly left his home about 8 a.m. Friday heading to Moultrie, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Investigator Capt. Hal Suber said Monday. He arrived at a house on Edmondson Road to pick up a junk vehicle, but he has not been seen since arriving there.
A Colquitt County sheriff’s deputy found Morey’s Dodge 2500 truck on Edmondson Road Friday, but Suber said it was unoccupied. Hart said Monday it was parked directly in front of Williams’ house.
Morey’s mothr reported him missing after he didn’t call. The truck was return to his family about 3 p.m. Friday.
The Georgia State Patrol and Search and Rescue conducted a search of the area where the truck was found without locating Morey, Suber said. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations has been called in to assist with the investigation.
This is the first reported homicide of 2009 in Colquitt County and the first reported to the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office since the killings of five people on Highway 37 East in 2004.
