MOULTRIE — Four people were injured when two vehicles collided on Highway 33 South Monday night. At least one of them remained at Colquitt Regional Medical Center Tuesday afternoon.
A hospital spokesperson said Michael Murphy, 39, of 677 Swift Canteen Road, was listed in stable condition Tuesday afternoon. A second person injured in the accident, Roosevelt Hampton, 67, of 216 Chinaberry Lane, was treated and released Monday. The conditions of two others reported to be injured in the accident were unknown Tuesday.
A Ford F-150, driven by Murphy, and a Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Hampton, collided at the intersection of Highway 33 South and Gene McQueen Road about 6:55 p.m. Tuesday. Murphy was trapped inside of the truck before the Moultrie Fire Department responded and extricated him. The truck also caught on fire following the collision, but the fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived.
In addition to the Moultrie firefighters, members of the Southside Volunteer Fire Department, Colquitt County sheriff’s deputies and the Red Cross of Colquitt County were at the scene. The Georgia State Patrol investigated the collision, but its report was not complete Tuesday. The report was expected to be completed Wednesday.
