MOULTRIE — The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is usually a time for people to gather with family and enjoy food and fun together. For 15 people, however, they became less thankful as thieves found items of value in their vehicles.

Thieves were able to steal a wide variety of items from vehicles, including stereo equipment, guns, electronics, clothes, pocketbooks, tools and sunglasses.

Other cars were just damaged while one was stolen and later recovered but had significant damage to it along with items stolen from inside.

The known value of the items reported stolen and damage caused was estimated at about $20,741. Those who reported being the victims of theft from or damage to their vehicles were:

• Latonya Lamar reported a male relative broke the windshield and scratched the hood of her Buick Rendezvous while it was parked on Fourth Court Northwest Thursday. Damage was estimated at about $500.

• John Williams Jr. reported someone broke out the rear window of his Dodge D-150 truck while it was parked at a house on Garden Villa Drive between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 2 p.m. Saturday. Damage was estimated at $400.

• Bobbie Stafford reported a thief broke out the rear window, deflated two tires, damaged the grill and left the sun roof and driver’s side window open on her Lincoln Aviator and stole two 10-inch speakers, a radio and an amplifier between midnight and 1:47 a.m. Sunday. Damage and the value of the stolen items was about $10,000. The Aviator itself was reported stolen from Alberta Avenue but was recovered at Knuck McCrary Park on Magnolia Avenue.

• Dewey Young, of Fifth Street Southeast, reported a thief stole a JVC CD player from his unlocked BMW 735i between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 7:16 a.m. Sunday. The value of the stolen CD player was estimated at $600.

• Rick Dunwoody, of Fifth Street Southeast, reported a thief stole a Sony Explode CD player from his Mercury Grand Marquis between 10 p.m. Saturday and 7:18 a.m. Sunday. The value of the stolen CD player was estimated at $100.

• Lillie Byrd reported someone broke the windshield of her Cadillac Deville while it was parked on Third Street Southeast Sunday. Damage was estimated at $300.

• Scott Yarbrough, of Fifth Street Southeast, reported a thief stole a Sony CD player and a Mag Lite flashlight from his unlocked Chevrolet Lumina between 7 p.m. and 10:19 p.m. Sunday. The value of the stolen items was $175.

• Jeff Parker, of Southern Trail, reported a thief stole a Nextar navigation system, a Donney & Burke pocketbook, a Panasonic DVD player, five DVD’s, a diamond ring, a gold necklace, a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses, a pack of Mountain Dew drinks and a pair of Costa del Mar sunglasses from his wife’s GMC Yukon, a pair of Danner boots, a Winchester 20-gauge shotgun, a digital frame, a John Deere play set and a reflective jacket from his Ford F-150 and four lounge chairs between 1 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. Sunday. The value of the stolen items was $5,437.

• Victor Mercer, of Upper Trail, reported a thief stole an Audiovox DVD player, a DVD, a Chaps jacket, a Motorola cell phone and a Coleman lantern from his Dodge Durango between 1:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. Sunday. The value of the stolen items was $414.

• Teresa Loftis, of Lonesome Pine Trail, reported a thief stole $5 change and a toolbox with tools inside from her Chevrolet Trailblazer between 7 p.m. Saturday and 9:10 a.m. Sunday. The value of the stolen items was $405.

• Angie Stone, of Wacamaw Road, reported a thief stole a Vera Bradley pocketbook, a Canon digital camera, five credit cards, a debit card and a 12-pack of Dr. Pepper drinks from her Ford F-250 between 7 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. The value of the stolen items was $391.

• Fernando Vazquez, of Tallokas Circle, reported a thief stole a Panasonic CD player, two pairs of Nike shoes and a pair of Armani jeans from his son’s Acura Integra between 2:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The value of the stolen items was $490.

• Rickey and Sheila Hartley, of Old Timey Trail, reported a thief stole a Benelli 20-gauge shotgun from a GMC Sierra K1500 truck and an XM radio, a pair of prescription sunglasses and a pack of Winston cigarettes from a Chevrolet Suburban between 11 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The value of the stolen items was $1,179.

• Chad Goff, of Suwanee Road, reported a thief stole a Stihl chainsaw from the back of his pickup truck between 6:30 p.m. Nov. 24 and 10:30 a.m. Nov. 25. The value of the stolen chainsaw was $350.

• Tangela Jordan, of Lakeview Acres Road, reported someone deflated a tire on her grandfather Lincoln car Wednesday. Jordan gave sheriff’s deputies the name of a male suspect.
