• A Colquitt County volunteer fire department received a federal grant to update its vehicle fleet, the second time in as many years and third time in five years for a group of county firefighters. Westside Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $190,000 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program to purchase a new tanker truck. A hue and cry went up earlier this week when the Colquitt County Board of Education refused to let a senior with a developmental disability walk at today’s graduation. The board reversed its decision on Wednesday, but tragic events will prevent Ryan James from joining his classmates at Mack Tharpe Stadium. -
