MOULTRIE — Children in Moultrie will get their chance to scare up some treats from downtown businesses and try to win prizes Friday, Oct. 31.
Main Street/marketing director Amy Johnson said the annual Downtown Trick or Treat will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. Children can go to downtown businesses displaying an orange “Trick or Treat Here” sign and receive candy.
In addition to the businesses, Johnson said CNS Television will have a booth on the courthouse square giving out candy and balloons. A parent/guardian or other adult is asked to remain with the children as they visit the downtown businesses.
Once the trick or treating is over at 5:30, Johnson said the costume contest will begin. Anyone ages 0 to 12 can enter, but organizers ask that costumes not to be too frightening or gory. Sign ups for the contest will begin at 4:15 p.m. on the courthouse square.
Johnson said community clubs and schools are welcome to participate in the trick or treating around the square by setting up a booth. Anyone interested can contact Jessica McGirt at the Main Street office at 890-5455.
CNS will also be providing trick or treaters with materials to collect all of their goodies, Johnson said. Trick or treat bags, with tips for staying safe, will be available at City Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, through Thursday, Oct. 30. Any bags remaining will be given out at the CNS booth during the Downtown Trick or Treat.
Johnson said the downtown event is held early enough in the day to allow children the chance to continue trick or treating in their neighborhoods once it is over.
