Thieves take $25,000 in goods from residents

MOULTRIE — A Moultrie man reported Wednesday that a riding lawn mower and a trailer were stolen from his property while he was on vacation. He was one of six Colquitt County residents who, along with one business, reported property theft Wednesday.

Shawn Avera, of Pine Cone Road, reported a thief stole a John Deere riding mower and an 18-foot trailer while he was on vacation. The value of the stolen items was $11,000.

In addition to Avera’s theft, items reported stolen from other residents included electronics, rented DVDs, a pistol, copper from an air conditioner and a van. The known total value of items reported stolen and damage caused during the thefts was about $13,630. Those who reported being victims of theft were:

• Jennifer Underwood, of Woodmen Road, reported Wednesday a thief stole DVD’s she had rented from Movie Gallery between Aug. 6 and Aug. 14. The value of the stolen DVDs was about $180. Underwood gave officers the name of a suspect.

• Jason Boyd reported a thief stole a Highpoint .40-caliber pistol from his Nissan Altima while it was parked on North Main Street Wednesday. The value of the stolen pistol was $180.

• Laura Douglas, of Ninth Avenue Southwest, reported a thief damaged a Goodman air conditioning unit and stole the copper from inside Wednesday.

• An employee at Rent-A-Center on Talmadge Drive reported a thief stole a Sony television Wednesday. The value of the stolen television was $720.

• Ricky James, of 10th Street Southeast, reported a female acquaintance broke a bedroom window and stole a hammer drill, a car sander and a Sony PlayStation 2 Wednesday. Damage and the value of the stolen items was $750.

• Martin Garcia reported a thief stole a Dodge van while it was parked at a house on Cedar Street between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday. The value of the stolen van was $800.



Arrests:

Moultrie Police

• Rachel Martinez, 20, of 1818 Sardis Church Road, was charged Wednesday with theft by shoplifting and giving false information to an officer.

• Cleo Burkes Jr., 51, of 1108 Fourth Ave. S.E., was charged Wednesday with making terroristic threats and acts and disorderly conduct.

• Brenda Lee, 43, of 219 Third St. S.W., was charged Thursday with DUI, an open container violation and tag lights required.

• Jerry Lee Mobley, 56, of 216 30th Ave. N.W., was charged Thursday with an open container violation.



Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office

• Vincent Allen Woodward, 48, of 2809 Sylvester Drive, was charged Tuesday with two counts of battery (family violence) and cruelty to children (family violence).



Norman Park Police

• Polez Gaona, 26, of 170-C S. Railroad St. in Norman Park, was charged Wednesday with driving without a license and a seatbelt violation.



Berlin Police

• Lizandro Ortiz, 23, of 2105 23rd Place in Cape Coral, Fla., was charged Wednesday with improper passing and driving without a license.

Moultrie Police

• Terrisheta Paige, of Third Street Southeast, reported someone flattened three tires on her Chrysler Sebring Wednesday.

• An employee at KFC on Lane Street reported someone damaged an entrance sign and two trees with a vehicle Wednesday. Damage was estimated at $250.

• Retha Smith reported a juvenile boy threw an unknown object at her Ford Explorer, damaging a passenger door, as she drove on 10th Street Southeast Wednesday. Damage was estimated at about $200.



Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office

• Carl Wood reported someone damaged 17 feet of a barbed wire fence on his property on James Gray Road in Omega with a vehicle between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 7:56 a.m. Wednesday. Damage was estimated at about $200.

• Larry Phillips, of Cherokee Drive, reported someone broke two OSB boards on his house between Aug. 31 and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Damage was estimated at about $200.
