Friendship Baptist to sponsor health fair Saturday

MOULTRIE — The Annual Colquitt County Community Health Fair will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at Friendship Baptist Church, 421 Sixth Ave. N.W., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is held each year as a service to the community to make the people aware of the importance of preventive health screening.

This year's focus will be on HIV/AIDS. Information will be presented about the importance of getting tested for this disease and other health problems.

Some of the services provided include on-site breast exams, prostate exams/PSA test, blood pressure check, weight, blood glucose screening, vision test, hearing test, cholesterol test, and many others.

The Southeastern Community Bloodmobile will be on site accepting blood donations, and each donor will be given a T-shirt. There will be a special session for the youth of the community when a representative from Darton College will give a lecture for them.

Representatives from the Moultrie Police Department, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office, County Extension office, Georgia Cares, Hope House, Colquitt County Health Department, Moultrie Technical College, Serenity House and other members of the community will volunteer their services. A podiatrist will also discuss the effects diabetes has on the feet.

All these services are provided free except the cholesterol test. The complete lipid profile costs only $9. Anyone who plans to take the cholesterol test is asked not eat or drink anything after midnight Saturday.

This event is sponsored by Friendship Baptist Church, Colquitt County Branch of the NAACP and Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Doctors and other health care providers are invited to attend.
