THOMASVILLE — Coolidge’s mayor was elated Thursday morning upon learning that $80,000 in federal grant funding is coming to the town.
Coolidge Mayor Diane Causey had not received word that the city’s grant request had been approved.
“I’m just ecstatic,” said Causey, when contacted at her Coolidge City Hall office Thursday morning.
Coolidge will receive $80,000, part of the fiscal 2009 Homeland Security Appropriations bill.
“The funding will help with situations before they happen,” Causey explained.
Coolidge will buy two generators with the money — one for the town’s new city hall and another for waste water disposal. “We have a generator for the (city) well,” Causey explained.
A siren to alert townspeople to disaster also will be purchased with the money.
U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop, D-Albany, said the bill provides $39.9 billion for the Department of Homeland Security and related agencies.
