Woman gives birth in toilet; faces child cruelty charge

MOULTRIE — A Moultrie woman was apprehended after she allegedly gave birth to a child and tested positive for drugs Thursday morning.

Melissa Lea Conger Bledsoe, 25, of 2122 Old Doerun Road, was charged with cruelty to children.

Colquitt County sheriff’s deputies were called to Colquitt Regional Medical Center on South Main Street at 8:07 a.m. Thursday. An employee with the Department of Family and Children’s Services said paramedics were called to Bledsoe’s house at 4:08 a.m. about her giving birth to a child in her toilet.

Both Bledsoe and the child were brought to Colquitt Regional for treatment. A drug test was done on Bledsoe, and it allegedly came back positive for controlled substances.

Once the tests were returned, Bledsoe was placed under arrest, and the baby was turned over to DFCS. Bledsoe was taken to Colquitt County Jail after she was released from Colquitt Regional.



Arrests:

Moultrie Police

• Ladarius Bernard Moore, 25, of 828 First St. N.W., was charged Thursday with possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

• Jason Jamal Broner, 20, of 134 Minnesota Road in Doerun, was charged Thursday with possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

• Michael Shawn Marshall, 29, of 129 S. Gregory St. in Sale City, was charged Thursday with driving without a license and failure to stop at a stop sign.



Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office

• Christopher Alex Holloway, 37, of 307-A Captain Gay Road, was charged Wednesday with theft by conversion and probation violation.

• Michael Darrell Dampier, 34, of 112 28th Ave. N.W., was charged Tuesday with theft by conversion.

• Gustavo Martinez, 28, of 210 McMillian Road, was charged Wednesday with criminal trespassing and carrying a concealed weapon.



Berlin Police

• Kenise Charon Sloan, 21, of 413 New Hudson St. in Valdosta, was charged Friday with speeding and reckless driving.



Other Incidents:

Moultrie Police

• An employee at Oxley’s Supermarket on West Central Avenue reported Thursday a known female customer forged and cashed two fraudulent checks between May 27 and May 29. The amount of the forged checks was $708.90.

• James Fountain reported someone damaged a stair hand rail at Fountain Financial Center on Fifth Street Southeast between 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 1:29 p.m. Thursday. Damage was estimated at $250.

• An employee at the Georgia Department of Labor on Fifth Street Southeast reported a thief stole a Panasonic television and a Toshiba DVD/VCR unit Thursday. The value of the stolen items was about $450.

• Frank Garcia, of 12th Avenue Southeast, reported a thief stole a 10-speed mountain bicycle from under his carport between 9 a.m. and 3:58 p.m. Thursday. The value of the stolen bicycle was estimated at $110.

• Jennifer Barrett, of 11th Avenue Southwest, reported a thief stole a Blackberry and a Canon digital camera Thursday. The value of the stolen items was $850. Barrett gave officers the name of a male suspect.
