MOULTRIE — The Rev. L. Perry McNeal, pastor of the Jerusalem and Historic Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist churches of Claxton, Ga., will be the guest evangelist for the Colquitt County Interdenominational Christian Alliance Annual City Wide Revival and Evangelistic Service June 9-13 with a seminar beginning at 6 p.m., prayer service at 7 p.m., and worship service at 7:30 p.m., nightly at the Live Oak M.B. Church. The Rev. J. W. Greene Jr. is the host pastor.
McNeal, who is a native of Evans County, Daisy, Ga., received his early education in the public schools of Evans County. He attended Savannah State College and Johnson C. Smith Seminary, and he received his doctorate of ministry from Union Theological Seminary. He has several certificates of merit and completion from the University of Georgia and Armstrong State College.
He holds memberships in several organizations which include St. Joseph Lodge No. 76, Claxton Kiwanis Club, Lamar Carter Consistory 32 degree, two ministerial associations, Georgia Association of Broadcasters, the Claxton County Chapter of the NAACP, and other business, professional, civic and fraternal organizations.
McNeal has been the pastor of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church for 37 years and Historic Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church for 11 years. For 47 years, he has pastored churches in Savannah, Albany, Patterson, Waycross, Sylvania and Reidsville. He has the opportunity to pastor in cities in the North but has remained in the South because of his concern for development and leadership in rural communities, he said.
He has been moderator of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Association for 18 years and 32 years as vice moderator of the Tattnall Missionary Baptist Association. He also serves as regional vice president to the president of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc., representing a membership of more than 550,000 black Baptists in Georgia.
He was program director and general manager of WCLA, AM radio station in Claxton, where he hosts “Rejoicing in the Morning.” He also worked as a radio announcer with several stations in Georgia and WALB television station in Albany.
He has served the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc. as public relations director, missions director both home and foreign, and promotional secretary for all of the 12 districts. He is currently regional vice president for Districts One, Two, and Eleven, which are the larger districts of the convention.
C.C.I.C.A. is a non-denominational, non-profit, Christian organization that was formed to unite all denominations to provide service to the community. They host Watch Night Service, Holy Week Service, City Wide Crusade and Thanksgiving Service, and also provide two scholarships to graduating seniors from Colquitt County High School, who are members of the affiliated churches. The alliance also holds a Fourth Sunday Service that provides financial support for the Emergency Relief Fund, that is managed by the Southwest Georgia Community Action Council.
