OMEGA — One man was injured Tuesday night when he lost control of his SUV and it overturned.
Thanh Van Nguyen, 36, of Omega, was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center for injuries he sustained in the one-vehicle accident. A hospital spokesperson said he was treated for his injuries and released Wednesday.
The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) said Nguyen was driving a Ford Explorer on Ellenton-Omega Road near the Swords Road intersection at 9:17 p.m. Tuesday. He went onto the east side shoulder but overcorrected as he tried to get the Explorer back onto the road.
As he overcorrected the Explorer, the GSP said, the vehicle went across the roadway and into a ditch on the west side of the road. He continued through the ditch and into a field, where the Explorer overturned six times.
The Explorer came to rest in the field facing southeast, the GSP said. Nguyen was ejected from the vehicle, but a 12-year-old male passenger remained inside. The boy complained of minor injuries at the scene.
The GSP said Nguyen was charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane and child endangerment while DUI. No other vehicles were involved.

CORRECTION: DUI charge
In a Jan. 28 report, The Observer said Ronald Craig Bass, 50, 4411 Dunn Road, Hartsfield, was charged Jan. 26 with driving under the influence, open container violation and probation violation in connection with a minor wreck on Camilla Highway. Excluding the probation violation charge, that information came from a Moultrie police report of a November 2001 incident.
Bass was charged with probation violation Thursday because all the penalties from the 2001 incident had not been paid. He paid the remaining penalties following his arrest, according to a Moultrie police report.
The Observer regrets the error. -
