MOULTRIE — Two teen-agers told Moultrie police they were shopping in a department store Thursday night when employees closed the store and locked them in … but officers didn’t buy it.
Brandon S. Johnson, 17, of 636 Ben Baker Road in Norman Park, and a 16-year-old boy were each charged with burglary.
Two officers were sent to Roses Department Store on Sixth Street Southeast at 10:51 p.m. Thursday after an alarm went off at the store. The officers waited for a key holder to arrive, but they saw the people, identified as Johnson and the 16-year-old boy, inside the store.
Once the officers were able to get inside, they placed the two in handcuffs. Both stated to the officers they did not know the store had closed at 10 p.m. and they were stuck inside after closing.
A store manager allowed the officers to view security camera footage, and the police report said it showed Johnson and the boy walking around with drinks after closing. The footage also showed them attempting to get out through the store’s back door, the report said.
Johnson was taken to the Colquitt County Jail, and the 16-year-old was released to his parents.
Arrests
• Jesse Randall Moore, 40, of 204 Big Bear Blvd. in Colquitt, was charged Thursday with possession of marijuana less than one ounce, DUI and defective equipment.
• Cortney Butler, 24, of 183 Lamar St. in Camilla, was charged Thursday with theft by shoplifting.
• Ursula A. Robinson, 29, of 4364 Red Bird Lane in Camilla, was charged Thursday with theft by shoplifting.
• Erik S. Wike, 57, of 2010 West Blvd., was charged Thursday with theft by taking a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license.
• Charles Linwood Nix Jr., 28, of 1001 First St. S.E., Apt. F, was charged Thursday with two counts of financial transaction card fraud.
• Calvin Simpson Jr., 19, of 205 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, was charged Thursday with battery (family violence).
• Amanda Denham, 29, of 409 31st Ave. S.E., Apt. H, was charged Thursday with theft by taking.
Other Incidents
• Nichole Marks, of 13th Street Southwest, reported a thief stole her English bulldog puppy between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. Thursday. The value of the stolen puppy was about $250.
• Tony Williams, of First Street Southwest, reported someone used his Chase Mastercard credit card number to pay a Bell South phone bill between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10:55 a.m. Thursday. The amount of the fraudulent use was about $190.
• James Hancock, of Camellia Lane, reported a thief stole a 2.5-gallon gas can with gasoline inside, an Echo blower, an Echo edger and an Echo line trimmer from his garage between 11 a.m. Monday and 1 p.m. Thursday. The value of the stolen items was about $505.
• Ricky Edge, of Fifth Street Southwest, reported a thief stole his Deuce bicycle from his front yard Tuesday. The value of the stolen bicycle was about $100.
