Teen charged in 2 armed robberies

MOULTRIE — A 17-year-old Moultrie man was apprehended Wednesday in connection with two armed robberies Sunday. Investigators are searching for three other men involved in the two robberies.

Alex John Davis, 17, of 215 29th Ave. N.W., was charged with seven counts of armed robbery, seven counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Colquitt County sheriff’s investigator Shannon Hart said Davis was placed under arrest Wednesday afternoon. He was connected to the two armed robberies Sunday night through “interviews and investigation.”

Active warrants on a second suspect, Emerson Woodrow Jackman, 18, of 1016 10th Ave. S.E., were issued Tuesday, Hart said. He also faces seven counts of armed robbery, seven counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and had not been apprehended as of Wednesday afternoon.

Jackman was connected to an armed robbery at 3229 Sylvester Drive after his Honda Accord was left at the scene, Hart said. He, Davis and two other black males have also been connected to an armed robbery that took place at the Regency Village laundromat Sunday. It was possible the same group was also involved in an armed robbery that took place Nov. 4, but Hart had not made a definite connection as of Tuesday afternoon.

Angel Tabara and Carlos Martinez reported they were at the Regency Village Laundromat on Highway 133 South at 8:24 p.m. Sunday when two black males came inside. One of the men pulled out a gun and stuck it in Martinez’s neck and forced both Martinez and Tabara outside to a Kia Sephia.

Once inside the Kia, the black males stole $30 cash and a credit card from Martinez and $20 in quarters from Tabara. The robbers got into a green car, possibly a Honda Accord with two other black males inside, and left the scene. Neither Martinez nor Tabara was injured in the incident.

In the other incident, Ibirdo Velasquez, Eufracio Osobo, Lubar Vazquez and Santos Perez, all of 3229 Sylvester Drive, Apt. 1, were robbed about 10:14 p.m. Sunday.

Velasquez told the deputy the robbers stole $400 cash from him, Osobo stated he had $150 cash stolen, Perez stated he had $300 cash stolen but Vazquez stated he did not have any money stolen from him. They stated two robbers came inside and held them at gunpoint while two other suspects waited outside. One of the robbers fired two gun shots at the floor as he left the house.

It was not known whether Jackman or Davis committed the robberies or were the men in the Accord, Hart said. The incidents are under investigation by the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office and Moultrie Police Department with the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 616-7430.
