THOMASVILLE — Objects visible in the bay window of a Coolidge mobile home pointed to a horticultural project.
“In plain sight from the road, we could see a three-foot marijuana plant in the window. There was a jug of liquid fertilizer sitting beside it. You could see that from the road also,” said Kevin Lee, commander of the Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division.
Narcotics agents were familiar with the area. Across the street earlier his month, Albert Williams Jr., 52, was charged with manufacturing marijuana after officers found four pot plants growing in his yard in the 4000 block of North Willard Street.
The latest find was at 4065 North Willard.
Agents knocked on the door in the Tuesday bust, but no one answered. Soon, Albert Williams Jr. and his brother, Ely Williams, 51, arrived on foot at the rear of the residence. Both men said they lived there.
Albert Williams got into a scuffle with officers and ran as he was being arrested. His brother told agents they would have to obtain a warrant to search the dwelling.
Agents returned with a search warrant and found marijuana leaves that had been removed from pot plants. “They were drying in a container inside,” Lee explained.
More marijuana plants were found in the back yard. “One was seven to eight feet tall,” the commander said.
When harvested, a single marijuana plant has a street value of about $1,000.
Agents also found a crack cocaine-smoking device in the mobile home.
The brothers are charged with manufacturing marijuana and cocaine possession.
Albert Williams, who was released on a $5,000 bond in early July, and his brother were released on bonds of $8,100 each this week.
