Moultrian charged with false imprisonment

MOULTRIE — A Moultrie man was arrested after he allegedly would not allow a woman to leave a house during a domestic dispute Sunday morning.

Jose Gonzalez, 22, of 1957 Sylvester Highway, Lot 21, was charged with false imprisonment, police reports showed.

Moultrie police officers were called to a house on Fourth Street Northwest at 10:23 a.m. Sunday about a physical domestic dispute. When the first officer arrived at the scene, he heard a woman screaming to let her go and he had broken her phone.

Two other officers arrived at the scene, and the inside of the house became quiet when the officers knocked on the door. Jennifer Quiroz answered the door, and she was crying and had a scratch on her left arm.

The officers asked Quiroz where the man was, and she stated he was upstairs as he came down the stairs. The man, identified as Gonzalez, had small scratches to his neck. Before he came down, officers asked Quiroz what had happened, and she stated they had been arguing, the reports said.

A second officer took Gonzalez aside while the other officer spoke with Quiroz about the incident. She stated he got upset because she would not eat breakfast with him, and he told the children to leave the house and he closed the blinds, the reports further stated.

Quiroz stated she went outside to drink a cup of coffee with her cell phone, and she went back inside and told Gonzalez she was getting her wallet and going to walk around. When she walked inside, Gonzalez allegedly grabbed her and held her against a kitchen wall then locked the doors, preventing her from leaving.

Quiroz told the officer she began to fight back to get Gonzalez off of her, and he allegedly broke her cell phone and tore two $20 bills she had. The officers then spoke with Gonzalez, and he admitted to breaking the cell phone and tearing the money, and he stated he would pay her back for everything that was damaged. Gonzalez was then placed under arrest and taken to Colquitt County Jail.
