MOULTRIE — The City of Moultrie was awarded more than $3 million in stimulus funding for renovations and improvements of the wastewater treatment facility. The announcement came at the Moultrie City Council meeting Tuesday.
City Manager Mike Scott said this is the first federal stimulus money the city has received.
“It has taken a lot of work to get this one,” Scott said.
The total cost of upgrades and expansion at the wastewater treatment plant is $3,384,500. The Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority will provide the entire amount as a loan from its Clean Water Staet Revolving Fund, a GEFA press release said. However, the funding includes a 70 percent subsidy — $2,369,150 — which the city will not have to pay back. The remainder — $1,015,350 — will be paid back over 20 years at 3 percent interest, the press release said.
Other issues brought before the council included:
• A proclamation declaring Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, as National Night Out 2009.
• Conducting a public hearing regarding the purchase of one police cruiser and vehicle equipment for the Moultrie Police Department through a Justice Assistance Grant (JAG).
• Approving the first and second readings to amend the Subdivision Regulations.
• Approving a proposed renewal and funding participation of the Colquitt County Archways Partnership Project.
• Approving a proposed renewal of Green Oaks Center Janitorial Services Contract.
• Approving a resolution regarding Series 1998 Bonds Refunding Project.
• Approving a proposal for a handheld meter reading system.
• Holding an executive session to discuss real estate matters.
