Truck accelerates from intersection, damages car

MOULTRIE — A county man’s car was damaged Wednesday when a vehicle in front of him threw rocks as the driver accelerated, the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office said.

Eric Toomer, 100 block Thaggard Road, reported that he was at the intersection of Georgia Highway 133 at about 9:59 p.m., turning onto the highway, when the incident occurred.

He reported that the driver of a 1995 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck in front of him accelerated quickly, slinging rocks that scratched the windshield and paint of his 2000 Chevrolet Malibu. Toomer told the officer he followed the truck but could not get the driver to stop.

As Toomer was reporting the incident he saw the truck pass by and the officer stopped the vehicle.

Wesley Blake Strickland, 400 block Christmas Road, told the officer that Toomer approached him rapidly at the railroad intersection in an “aggressive manner,” causing him to accelerate.

He told the officer he did not stop at the scene because he was scared.

Toomer was advised to report the incident to the insurance companies or pursue the issue through Magistrate Court.
