MOULTRIE — The Lively Bunch of Mt. Olive Baptist Church held its monthly meeting of the new year in October with 43 members and visitors in attendance.
President Dorothy Spruill welcomed everyone before introducing Chaplain Tom Boggs, who gave their devotional. He spoke about the purpose of Sunday School, which is the outreach arm of the church, he said. He said a prayer and also asked the blessing on the food.
After eating a covered dish meal, Spruill introduced Kathy Walker and her mother, Iris Simpson. The duet played the piano and keyboard and sang. Among the songs they sang were “Keep on the Firing Line,” “Just a Closer Walk with Thee,” “God on the Mountain,” “When They Ring Them Golden Bells,” “Wait ‘Til You See My New Home,” “I’ll Take Jesus,” “Mansion Over the Hilltop,” and “Amazing Grace.” Simpson asked them to pray for strength for her and Kathy as they sang at nursing homes.
Helen McPhail read the minutes of the previous meeting and also gave the treasurer’s report. There were no objections to either.
They sang “Happy Birthday” to Dorothy Spruill, Maggie Cox, Andy Cashwell, Ray Askew, Martha Ann Strickland, Linda Norman, Mary Nell Truitt and Charles Dean. They also sang “Happy Anniversary” to Don and Kathryn Wooten, Andy and Dana Cashwell, and Austin and Dot Folsom.
They had prayer for Cranford Taylor, Wendy Rumley, Regina Weeks, Nan Newton and Wanda Baker.
Several of the folks who went on the Branson, Mo. trip earlier in October, told of some of their experiences. The Rev. Andy Cashwell had given each adult a one dollar bill and asked them to give it to someone in Jesus’ name while on the trip. So, stories were told of giving the money to folks who had injuries and one who had no shoes.
They drew names for door prizes.
