The Sowega Sams club held its January 2011 meeting at the Elks Lodge in Albany on Jan. 6, and discussed plans for the 2011 calendar. A list of New 2011 officers and campout locations were given to each member. Sally Johnson of Leesburg, Ga., was the host. Several Colquitt Countians were either elected or nominated to fill these positions. The elected officers were Danny Jordan, president, Moultrie; vice president, Glen Watson, Perry, Ga.; Dock Breeden, secretary/treasurer, Leesburg, Ga.; asst. secretary/treasurer, Debbie Jordan; and legislative representative, Carolyn Watson, Perry, Ga. Appointed officers were wagon master, Roy Wohlforth, Leary, Ga.; chaplin, Jack Sangster, Thomasville, Ga.; chapter sheriff, Charlsie Little, Albany, Ga.; deputy sheriff, Donna Sangster, Thomasville, Ga.; seargent at arms, Wendell Brown, Hartsfield,; historian, Beverly Richardson, Blakely, Ga.; publicity, Judy Clark, Moultrie; and sunshine girl, Loraine Sheeks, Albany, Ga. The telephone committee was Sally Johnson, Leesburg, Ga.; Lo Joie Ulm, Sumner, Ga.; Carolyn Kelly, Bainbridge, Ga.; and Faye Brown Hartsfield. The club had a meal which the Elks Lodge prepared and there was 43 there for the meal. The club is part of the Georgia Chapters of Good Sams. The club is all about camping, fun, food, and family. This club’s projects are Dogs for the Deaf and Veterans Hospital in Dublin, Ga. It also will be doing community projects in the spring and summer. The Good Sams Spring Samboree Rally will be held in Perry, Ga., March 23-27, 2011. The theme will be ‘Remembering the 50’s.’

Winners announced in CCHS Edible Book Festival
The second annual CCHS Edible Book Festival was held in the Media Center on April 30. Students, staff, and faculty were invited to bring their edible representation of a book to the library.

A training camp for imagination
“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” These are the words of Albert Einstein. So it would stand to reason that cultivating and encouraging creative imaginations would be a priority if Mr. Einstein recognized the value of this important mind attribute. I am always impressed by people with great imaginations and how they create great works of art or new inventions.

Deadline is May 22 for Museum of Ag volunteer apprenticeship
The Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College is looking for young people ages 13-17 to participate in the museum’s volunteer apprenticeship program for the 2012-2013 year. Volunteers will work during the summer and take part in special events such as the Folk Life Festival, Fall Frolics, and the Wiregrass Christmas festivities.
