Burnham family gathers

MOULTRIE — The eleventh Burnham family reunion was held, in May, in the social hall of the New Elm Baptist Church.

Descendants of Nora Alice Stapleton Burnham and Lewis Thomas Burnham gathered to hear Betty Burnham memorialize family members, Frances Davis Burnham and Curtis William Hopper, as well as Edwin Burnham.

Robert Lewis gave the devotional followed by Deborah Burnham Lewis, wife of Robert and daughter of this year’s honoree, Hubert Cass Burnham, the eighth child and fifth son of Nora Alice and Lewis Thomas Burnham. She painted a picture of the man that she “knew so well.” Speaking lovingly of his “generous spirit and kind heart,” she recalled that although he worked in various occupations, he always fancied himself a farmer. Tending his garden and grape vines seemed to be a source of pride, whose bounty he was quick to share with family, friends and sometimes even strangers. She said he was a good man who led by example.

The oldest attending was Irene Burnham, widow of Hubert; the youngest was three-week old William Crawford Hancock, son of Shannon and Brandy Hancock; and Rob, Cassandra, Skylar and Brock Woodruff of Macon, Ga. traveled the longest distance to attend.

After dinner, Angie Bius, Brittany Croft and Pam Harbin held the annual auction, which raises money for the cost of the reunion. Following the auction, a door prize drawing was held, this year won by Brittany Croft.

Among those attending from out of town were Marie Burnham, Deborah and Robert Lewis of Leesburg, Ga.; Mary and Ken Flowe, John and Stephanie Jones, Ricky Burnham, Ray Burnham, Wendell, Paula, Dale and Ryan Hodges, all of Albany, Ga.; Janice Phillips and Richard Bachelor, Pam, Tim, Jaime and J.T. Harbin, Karen Hopper Ansley, David Ansley, Brenda Hopper, Klarice Hopper, and Stephanie Hopper McMurphy all of Norman Park; Jason, Cindy, Jacob and Maygen Duckworth of Sylvester, Ga.; Kenneth and Faye Brock of Doerun; and Rob, Cassandra, Skylar and Brock Woodruff of Macon, Ga.

Local attendees included Betty Burnham, Andy Burnham, Kathy Burnham, Angie and Jason Bius, Brittany Croft, Steve Burnham, Wendy Gamble, Raybon Burnham, Tim Burnham, Donald Freeman, Olan, Sherri, Bethany and Katelynn Holweger, Donna and Scott Garrett, Austin and Brandon Garrett, Myra Garrett, Karen and Cora Belle Goines, Darrell and Faye Burnham, Jerry, Aaron and J.T, Burnham, Bonnie Keller, Shannon, Brandy, Cody and William Hancock, Roger and Angie Hancock, Amber Hancock, Brandon Hancock, Abby Hancock Gray, Irene Burnham, Aline Gregory, Travis and Marie Gregory, Bobbie Jean Hopper, Abigail and Gracie Wright, Tammy Jarvis, Tracy Jarvis, Lorin and Joshua Webb, Justin Griffin, Raven Hamilton, Brittany Harrod and Danny and Brandy Dangar.
