Arts Center to present Tams Aug. 14

The Colquitt County Arts Center Board of Directors has put together an incredible evening of entertainment that you won’t want to miss. Please mark your calendar and program your cell phone calendar for Aug. 14 to hear, see and experience The Tams! Next, stick a note on your refrigerator to purchase tickets so that you won’t miss this musical event of the year. Tickets are available at the Arts Center, from Arts Center Board Members and at Lazarus on the Square.

You’ll have to remind yourself that you’re not in Motown; you’re still in Moultrie!

The Tams will be performing at Withers Auditorium starting at 8 pm. This is a Colquitt County Arts Center benefit and tickets are $15 each. Proceeds from this concert will make it possible for future music legends to get their start at the Arts Center.

The Tams were formed in Atlanta in 1962 when a group of talented young musicians sang and danced their way to their first Top Ten Hit, “What Kind of Fool.” Other hits included “Untie Me,” “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy,” “I’ve Been Hurt” and “Hey Girl.” Since then, they have released more than 15 albums and have been honored with one Platinum and two Gold records. The Tams have toured and recorded with Jimmy Buffet and performed with such greats as Gladys Knight and Jackie Wilson.

New members have joined the group over the years and The Tams have continued to be as popular as ever. New generations of music lovers continue to follow this talented group of performers that are as relevant today as they were nearly 50 years ago.

The Class of 1969 will be making this concert event a part of its 40th class reunion and other classes are invited to join in on the fun. For anyone reading this from out of town, you should know that the Withers Auditorium is located at 1800 Park Ave. on the Colquitt County High School campus in Moultrie, Ga.

We are almost finished putting together the Fall/Winter Arts Center program schedule. Many of the classes that we offer like children’s dance, piano, guitar and voice, to name a few, will always be offered. You don’t want to fool with programs that have a successful following and a proven tract record.

We are adding a few new artistic choices such as dance classes for middle school and high school students that will include ballet, modern jazz and hip hop. Pine needle basket making, a manners class for 4 & 5 year olds, digital scrapbooking, theater workshops and even a holiday ornament making workshop will be included in the upcoming schedule. These are just a few examples of what the Arts Center has in store for the near future.

The growth that we have seen in our student enrollment this past year has been encouraging. The Arts Center will continue to prosper as long as we continue to find interesting and rewarding classes for young people, adults and seniors. With dedicated and talented instructors and your participation we can’t go wrong.

To receive a schedule please comes by the Arts Center for a complimentary copy. Patrons of the Arts Center will receive their copy in the mail and all elementary children will receive one to take home next month.

As a reminder, the Arts Center hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and it is located at 401 Seventh Ave. S.W. in Moultrie.
