MOULTRIE —
The first Saturday of December is reserved for a special holiday event: The Moultrie Christmas Parade.
The parade kicks off with a preshow at 5 p.m., according to Moultrie Main Street Director Amy Johnson. Entertainment will be provided by the students of Beans and Strings.
The parade itself begins at 6 p.m. The theme is “A Story Book Christmas Festival of Lights Parade.”
This year’s grand marshals will be representatives of the Colquitt County High School Packers football team, which drove to the state semifinals before losing last night to Grayson High of Loganville.
Johnson said several groups entered the parade on Wednesday, so she expects it to be about as big as usual — about 45 minutes.
The procession will come north on First Street Southeast, circle the courthouse on Central Avenue and return south on Main Street. Crowds are expected to line the entire square, watching the floats, listening to the music, and — of course — waiting for Santa Claus.
The weather man is calling for a low of about 50 tonight, so the temperature at parade time should be great.
