Veterans Day events planned for Friday, Saturday

MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s veterans plan two events this week in honor of Veterans Day.

On Friday, Nov. 11, the official observance of the holiday, the South Georgia Veterans Activities Committee will hold a memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony honoring fallen servicemen at 11 a.m. at the Lewis Hill Amphitheatre on the courthouse square.

Guest speaker will be the Rev. Matt Marston, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church. Anyone who wishes to lay a wreath or be involved in the program should call Hoyt or Faye Holland at 985-2334.

On Saturday, Nov. 12, the 23rd Annual Veterans Day Prayer Breakfast will be held at  7:30 a.m. at the C.A. Gray Junior High School cafeteria, 812 11th Ave. N.W.

Guest speaker will be Nicklous J. Ross, assistant director of outpatient clinics and planning for the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System. In this role, Ross has oversight of 11 outpatient clinics that provide services to veterans in 19 counties in Georgia and 31 in Florida.

Prior to assuming his current position, Ross was executive assistant to the director and facility planner at the health service. He came to the Veterans Administration in 2003 following a 30-year career in the Navy. He was a designated helicopter pilot, serving in command positions ashore and at sea, as well as staff positions in Washington, D.C., and other locations.

Ross holds a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management from Miami University and a Master of Arts in personnel management from Central Michigan University. He is a graduate of the NATO Defense College and an MIT Seminar XXI Fellow.
