The annual Colquitt County Market Goat and Lamb Show for 4-H and FFA members was held Nov, 1 at the County Livestock Pavilion. Judge Nick Moody, FFA and Young Farmer advisor at Stephens County High School, evaluated the 91 goat entries and 25 lamb entries.
Goat showmanship winners were Laine Weeks, junior division, Murdock Wynn, intermediate division, and Jamie Burt, senior division. In goat weight classes, placings were as follows. Class 1 does: 1st Murdock Wynn, 2nd Mason Bass, 3rd Justin Bass, 4th Jamie Burt, 5th Davis Coleman, 6th Charleston Hembree, 7th Ansley Jackson, 8th Bailey Parrish, 9th Clayton Bentley, 10th Briane Parrish. Class 2 does: 1st Laine Weeks, 2nd Jessie Blair, 3rd Madison Weeks, 4th Wesley Alvis, 5th Mac Blair, 6th Brock Weaver, 7th Baylee Tatum, 8th Laurie Jo Burt, 9th Joseph Jackson, 10th Carlana Hembree. Class 3 does: 1st Alexis Ruis, 2nd Jamie Burt, 3rd Kyle Crosby, 4th Laurie Jo Burt, 5th Carlana Hembree, 6th Hilton White, 7th Briane Parrish, 8th Parker Bullard. Class 4 does: 1st Jim Waldrop, 2nd Madison Weeks, 3rd David Cook, 4th Lea Barrow, 5th Laurie Jo Burt, 6th Charleston Hembree, 7th Abby Alvis, 8th Hilton White. Class 5 does: 1st David Cook, 2nd Joshua Johnson, 3rd Davis Coleman, 4th Faith Hall, 5th Baylee Tatum, 6th Brock Weaver, 7th Cody Brown. Class 6 does: 1st Lea Barrow, 2nd Megan Greeson, 3rd Mason White, 4th Gracie White, 5th Mason White, 6th Megan Greeson, 7th Walt Brown. Class 7 wethers: 1st Murdock Wynn, 2nd Mason Bass, 3rd Zachary Holland, 4th Ansley Alvis, 5th Jessie Blair, 6th Mac Blair, 7th Tiffany Carruthers, 8th Hardin Roberts, 9th Laken Hiers, 10th Bailey Parrish, 11th Briane Parrish. Class 8 wethers: 1st Murdock Wynn, 2nd Luke Mobley, 3rd Baylee Tatum, 4th Jim Waldrop, 5th Joshua Johnson, 6th Davis Coleman, 7th Parker Bullard, 8th Jed Hart, 9th Jake Hart, 10th Carlana Hembree, 11th Tiffany Carruthers. Class 9 wethers: 1st Cameron Brinson, 2nd Laken Hiers, 3rd Mac Blair, 4th Walt Brown, 5th David Cook, 6th Carlana Hembree, 7th Lawrence Alford, 8th Alaina Taylor, 9th Madison Weeks. The Champion doe was shown by Murdock Wynn and Reserve Champion shown by Laine Weeks. The Champion wether was shown by Luke Mobley and Reserve Champion by Murdock Wynn. Luke Mobley’s wether was named Overall Champion Goat, with Murdock Wynn’s wether taking Reserve Overall Champion Goat honors.
Lamb showmanship winners were Alaina Taylor, junior division, Lane Goodroe, intermediate division, and Alex Kimbrell, senior division. In lamb weight classes, placings were as follows. Class 1: 1st Alex Kimbrell, 2nd Davis Coleman, 3rd Alex Kimbrell, 4th Trinity Summerlin, 5th Wesley Alvis. Class 2: 1st Alex Kimbrell, 2nd Trinity Summerlin, 3rd Lane Goodroe, 4th Allison Taylor, 5th Lane Goodroe, 6th Alexis Ruis. Class 3: 1st Lane Goodroe, 2nd Elizabeth Beacham, 3rd Madison Weeks, 4th Victoria Barber, 5th Davis Coleman, 6th Lea Barrow, 7th Kirk Beacham. Class 4: 1st Victoria Barber, 2nd Davis Coleman, 3rd Alaina Taylor, 4th Lea Barrow, 5th Lea Barrow, 6th Victoria Barber, 7th Abby Alvis. Grand Champion Lamb was shown by Victoria Barber, Reserve Champion by Alex Kimbrell.
A premium sale of the goats and lambs was held following the show. The overall grand champion goat was bought by Ag Georgia Farm Credit and the reserve by Ameris Bank. The grand champion lamb was bought by Southwest Georgia Bank and the reserve by Colony Bank.
